Ignored Cabbages
Hooray!! The poultry run is complete: we have a woodchip covered floor along with branches for pecking and perching, a sand dustbath, a grit and oystershell filled tray (moved from inside their stall), mini-ponds times two for the ducks AND, hanging cabbages and lettuces!
It would be lovely to say how much the birds devoured the hanging greens as soon as we strung them up but whilst all the other additions were noticed, pecked, examined and approved; the cabbages and lettuces were, as the photo rather beautifully shows, studiously ignored!!!
Relaxed at Home
We have no idea why, maybe the birds could not see them against the green netting!!! Maybe they were frightened of them. Maybe they were full!!! We do hope they show a bit more interest in them tomorrow otherwise we may have to cut them down and give them to the goats!!
The birds do seem to appreciate the extra space mind you and are enjoying pecking in the wood chip which undoubtedly will contain a tasty minibeast or two. It is also making mucking out better as the inside stall is much less busy and so easier to move around in.
We also had a bumper crop of eggs today, seven in total: four brown, two blue and a white!!
