Geese eggs
We now have a grand total of 31 geese eggs spread amongst 3 nests and as of tonight, two broodies. This is curtesy of all our four females, the first who began laying three weeks ago with the other three now having caught up. They are not however sticking to the same nest to lay in so when the sitting starts, we are expecting a few shenanigans!!!
We gave four to the first broody hen a week ago and tonight gave four to the second one (pictured below) who, as a descendant of Queenie Bantan, has a reputation that goes before her (a good one we may add)! We have just candled those first four and ALL look to be fertile - to say we are getting excited is a bit of an understatement.
The ganders are getting more and more protective (one bruise to date from a well amined peck when Jack took her eye off the ball) and the girls have been perfecting their hissing!! They are all generally noisier and more active and hanging around the barn much more. We are just hoping upon hope that by the time we have a bit of pitter-pattering going on, we are a tad drier, and warmer, and the mud has receeded. Fingers crossed!!!
