It may be the middle of winter but in true Cadbury Cottage style (i.e. with no logic attached whatsoever), we gave the poultry stable a spring clean today. This mainly involved simplifying the nest box arrangements such that they are less accessible for the birds to perch on - and so poo on - and bringing the portable perch back inside so they have that instead. It gives more floor space - good news when they spend more time inside due to the rain - and will make mucking our each morning much easier!!
The way the nest boxes were, was designed to give maximum privacy for broidies but of course that is not a relevance at the moment. We still have a broody chicken mind you (our Jubilee Indian Game - you can see her in a nest box in the bottom image) but she is steadfastly refusing to give up and move on.
