A remarkable chicken
This chicken, a Maran, spends its days with the cows, to the point of even lying down next to them, as the photo shows, and just chilling. This morning as Jack mucked out, she actually mucked our around the chicken as she normally does with the cows!! She looked far too comfortable to be disturbed!!!
We have started to call her the 'cow lady' but need to think of something slightly more inspiring!!
At night she sleeps on a shelf on the goat side of the barn, she lays her egg under the milking bench first thing (a lovely, large dark brown one) and then for the rest of the day she wanders, and scratches and chills amongst the cattle.
She is canny enough to pop back to the poultry paddock for corn time and she helps herself to the goose layers pellets (from a trugg justtsinside the barn) - and we have seen her stand on tip toe (literally) to reach for a drink from the goat drinkers. She really has got her life totally suzzed out. We salute her!!!
