We have had a fair few ducklings hatch over the last few days, 10 at the last count, and due to our usual shenanigans of nest sharing and egg swapping, they are being looked after by no less than three mums: our Jubilee Indian Game, an IG cross and our Red Leghorn cross, All three birds are pretty feisty, will happily peck us if we try to manhandle their youngsters and can also be quite ferocious if another bird comes near. BUT, as mums they are a cohesive and united front and will hopefully protect their charges from the big bad world out there. One cannot fail to be imprssed by the wonder that is the 'broody chicken'!!
