Today we candled all 10 geese eggs that have been under the broodies since Sunday. Today is day 5 and so right at the start of any growth being visible but we were rather chuffed to see the tell-tale signs of blood vessels emerging from the nucleus in every single one! 100% fertility is great although their continuing growth right through to pipping and hatching is not at all guaranteed.
(pic is one of our favourites from last year) We have also been getting a little concerned about how often the black broody gets kicked off her goose eggs so other chickens can lay in the nest, and worse, at how she doesn't always then find her way back, instead sitting on newly laid chicken eggs elsewhere. For this reason we decided to remove her eggs and put them in the incubator too. They are too precious really to leave to chance!!
