Wet land - the start!!!
The forecast did not lie: today was very wet and our land is now very soggy indeed. We did have a dry-ish end to the day but it is a brief respite before the rain returns in the early hours.
We moved the rhea into one side of the double goat shelter and thus have now given them the whole of the top 3-acre field to roam around in. We feel they will benefit from having more space and hopefully being a bigger area, it won’t get (too) muddy.
Relaxed at Home
If the goats want to go out, we will need to put the rhea food out of sight mind you OR allow the goats out of the front of the barn into the 4 acre. At the moment though, the goats are very happy not to be going anywhere other than their nice dry, warm, straw filled barn. They know when they are well off.
And in other exciting news, we had 6 eggs today from what had been, our almost totally on-strike chickens, two of which are dark brown and so from our Marans. Very chuffed about this. One of our two leghorns also lays her white eggs regularly too. We just need our blue/ green egg layers to start/ start again and our coloured egg boxes will be complete.
