Our first beef in nine years!
Continuing with the cow theme, today we ate our first beef in nine years in the form of a sirloin steak! And the verdict? Well, it was nice, very nice indeed but for Jack there was still the thought that the meat was from an animal we had had an emotional attachment too and that feeling didn’t disappear as we began to eat!! For David was the realisation that in eating beef for the first time in years, he would actually be quite happy to go for another nine years before doing so again.. again this was nothing to do with the meat, but more his increasing awareness that eating meat no longer feels quite as okay as it used to.
Relaxed at Home
It is all rather strange. We abandoned shop bought meat nine years ago in order to be totally sure that any meat we subsequently ate was from animals we had raised, loved and nurtured. And now somehow, the fact we have raised, loved and nurtured them, is what makes us ‘less’ keen to eat them.
Hopefully we will find a balance at some stage between what and how much we raise and what we feel comfortable about consuming.
In the meantime, we have a lot of meat to sell – three freezers full in fact!!
