We have eggs!!!!
Oh my word, today we had FOUR eggs - this is a minor miracle as over the last few weeks, numbers have been really slowing down such that for five days in a row last week, we had ZERO eggs!! Unheard of in all our years of owning chickens. With 36 of the feathered wonders currently in residence in our poultry area, and almost half of those being this year’s youngsters and just of an age to start laying (!!!), we could be forgiven for mentioning the words ‘pot’ and ‘freezer’ as we lovingly muck out the stables in the mornings, top up feeders and provide nice clean water….. just as well we enjoy their company and antics!!!
Relaxed at Home
Egg laying does of course slow down as daylight hours decrease but even so, it would be nice to have a bit more of a trickle… Having said that, we found 26 yesterday, hidden away at the back of the barn in amongst the straw (!!): culprits being 2 leghorns and an IG cross. Annoyingly Jack could have sworn blind she checked there really recently!!!
We are truly in control of our chickens!!! Not!!!
