Numbers games
So today, our last four lambs went off to the abattoir and in addition we had another poultry dispatch day courtesy of our mobile slaughterman, Stephen Burrows.
There is a huge pleasure to be had when young stock goes and you are left with your breeding stock once again. It provides a chance to really check them over and make sure all is well still.
Relaxed at Home
Our poultry numbers are still high: we still have over 70 birds and wanted to be under 50 (and we are not even counting the Rhea in these numbers…). BUT the plan is to see what egg colours we start to get after xmas and then possibly sell some birds where we have several laying the same colour. Selling POL (point of lay) birds at that time of year can be good as there won’t be vast numbers and so prices will be higher (in theory).
Our numbers are down by over a quarter mind you so feed bills should also be down – as should the mucking out!!
