How lucky are we?? Today we picked up four white rhea to add to our four grey ones and now feel we are all set (hopefully) to create at least one breeding group next year. If luck is really with us, we may even be able to create two but until we can sex all eight birds, we won’t know how it is all going to pan out!!
Rhea don't breed in their first year so this is very much a long term project but we are more than confident we are going to enjoy the journey – a lot!! These four came from Kris Jury and are currently ensconced in our aviary in isolation. They aren’t majorly impressed with this set up having been used to a totally free range existence where 'dad' looked after them. Their time indoors won’t be long though and we are very excited about seeing how they will interact with our existing quartet.
