Rain, grass and hay!!
A hideous day of rain.. BUT we have very green grass and the top 3-acre paddock is looking particularly good and in a week or two will be long enough for the cows to go in and have a real feast. In the meantime they have gone back into the 4-acre which the sheep and alpacas are not quite keeping in top of so there should be some good nutritional grass in there for the cows too. (Not (as the photo shows) that that stopped them immediately heading for the hay!!!)
Relaxed at Home
Our grazing and rotation is now being worked around two forthcoming events: our lean-to rebuild, starting in two weeks ish (fingers crossed) and our Celebrating Smallholding UK Get-together. For both events we need the 4-acre empty of stock but we neither want the grass too long or too short. Of course growth will be affected by the weather and we have zero control over that!!! But the plan is to have all the stock in the 3-acre fields with plenty for them to eat, and for the 4-acre to be beautifully grazed but not too have too much fresh poo in there for our CSUK afternoon on 22 September!!
Best laid plans!!!.
