And then there was one!!
Queenie's daughter, Hedgerow Broody or Row for short, is normally the most reliable broody. Last year she disappeared into a hedgerow in the garden and successfully incubated 8 out of her 10 eggs! This year she laid around twelve in a cat basket in the stable store and then half way through the incubation, 'something' happened and we found all but two on the floor!!! We think she may have been disturbed by an amorous cockerel!!! Anyway, the upshot was just this one little chick, hatched yesterday!!! A tiny chappie who Row is of course, devoted to!!
Relaxed at Home
We are just thankful that she wasn't sat on any of the coloured eggs we have bought in!!! To have lost a load of those eggs would have been slightly more annoying Mother and daughter (we hope it is female anyway) are now safely ensconced in the main stables happily raking through the straw filled floor. She will no doubt introduce the chick to the big wide world in due course.
