Introducing Guinevere
More of the same with Onion, she continues to nibble at her browsings and we continue to get as much of the three drenches inside her. The bottle feeding is going okay with her triplets although the smaller boy takes very little: we strongly suspect he is stealing from either Pebbles, Sorrel or both!!
Relaxed at Home
Meanwhile, we have more goose news! We had three viable eggs from a batch of 12 and over the course of the last few days all three have hatched. Sadly however, this female is the only one left!! The first to hatch, a male, seemed fine but on day three he became weak and died. By that stage his sister had hatched and was thriving. A couple of days later we 'unpicked' a second male from his egg but he never made it out of the incubator!!
So now we have ANOTHER orphan gosling! We have named her Guinevere. At night she is in a sectioned off part of the aviary next to Sylveter and Gloria and by day she is in a run on the grass. We get her out as much as we can to be with the others (supervised) so that she is not billy-no-mates 24/7!! It's all been a very up and down breeding season for the West Of Englands... but boy, we are rather in love with our goslings!!
