Stunning triplets
Our wait is over. We awoke this morning to the sight of three stunning kids, two boys and a girl. We had obviously only just missed the action as number three, the black and white boy, was still lying in a pile of birthing fluids. Boy number one, the smallest and by the looks of it, the first born was pretty dry and the all black female was taking what looked like her first steps. We are so pleased, pleased that dear Onion is now no longer so huge and waddly and pleased for us that we 'may' just have our 'keeper' for Onion in the form of the black girl! Onion, as last year, has plenty of milk and with two not-so-false teats, plenty of choice about where it can be taken from. Nonetheless, it became apparent quite quickly that the only one getting anything of substance was the smaller boy. And try as we might, neither of the other two seemed inclined to want to suckle. Onion was the most patient mum and stood stock still whilst we tried to get each kid to latch on but it was all a bit lack luster it has to be said. In the end we milked out Onion into a bottle and offered the kids that instead and would you believe it, both of them wolfed it down, which if course was great – all that yummy colostrums now being inside them – but we were at a bit of a loss as to why they weren't doing this with mum's teats!!

We were however, NOT inclined to continue to bottle feed and so every two to three hours for the rest of the day we kept trying to encourage both kids to latch on, only topping up again with the bottle if we felt they needed it. By the end of the day, the girl was definitely sorted and progress had been made with the boy and so we are optimistic that our services won't be required for much longer. They are a bonny set of kids, we love the colours – just the small matter of names now.
