Rain and more chicks
Despite some dry weather we have also had some terrible weather thuis last week or so and at times the land seems to be reverting to winter conditions with mud and standing water appearing again, It also make mucking out harder cos the animals are in more, therefore we get more poo plus they bring in a lot more dampness on their feet. Our straw levels are running low too and we know that neither of the suppliers we have used to date, will have any now until their first harvest, which probably won’t be till August at the earliest!!!
Relaxed at Home
But as far as the animals are concerned it is Spring and so we welcomed two more chicks today, courtesy of our Red Leghorn cross. These were from a batch of four eggs we had given one of our Indian Game hens but because we want her for the next set of goslings, we gave them to the RL cross. She is a feisty broody so we have no doubt will do a good job. The chicks are both pale in colour and tiny: we’ve had a sneaky peek but they are going to stay quite hidden for a day or two yet!!!
