Twins for Mrs Brown!!
Our second lambing happened today courtesy of Mrs Brown who around 11am this morning popped out these two stunners. We managed to watch both being born and once again, it was a textbook birth.
Relaxed at Home
It was pretty obvious first thing this morning that today was the day as we found a very restless Mrs B. pacing and grumbling in the shelter. She was pawing the ground, eating a bit, lying down, getting up, lying down... And then around ten thirty-ish, her waters broke. She immediately turned around and started to lap them up before laying down again and a few minutes later starting her contractions.
The ram lamb came first, closely followed by the ewe lamb. Both are blue eyed with jet black, thick, curly coats and the wool feels so soft.
So confident are we with Mrs B’s mothering skills, that we didn’t even wait around to see the lambs drink. It was pretty obvious all was well and we knew her udder had plenty for them and was accessible and clean. We shut them all in the shelter and then later in the afternoon opened it back up again so if she wanted, Mrs B could take the lambs out – it being a lovely afternoon. It turned out she did and when we next checked, there they both were: enjoying the views, bellies full and lovely and warm!!
Amazing new life: never fails to impress!!!
And if this wasn’t exciting enough, today, as promised, we opened up the geese pophole and out they all went: what a fabulous sight it all was, firstly watching them all come out and secondly seeing them heads down eating away!!!
