Our first kids
Today was the day we were set to do a full clean of the barn and double field shelter in lieu of lambing and kidding, due to start this weekend!!! We finished at around 5.30pm and having shut them out, let the goats back into the barn where, quite amazingly, Pebbles simply lay down and…. gave birth!!!!
Relaxed at Home
We couldn’t believe it, she had in fact been stood outside the closed gate into the barn area, bleating away for a while. We assumed she just wanted to come in for her supper but actually she was telling us to get a b**** move on cos her contractions had started!!
It was a textbook birth, a gorgeous female popped out just gone 6pm. Her brother followed ten minutes later and by 6.30pm, both had had their first drink!
We are beyond excited, out first kids of the year and of course these are Curds’ granddaughters so there is a huge emotional aspect to this too.
Pebbles is proving to be just as good a mum as her mum was and with an almost equally sized udder – it is huge and we know it is going to take a little while for the kids to get suckling properly and really start to make an impact. For now it is the size of a large balloon and feels like one too!!!
Our next task is to name these!!!
