Welcoming Roxy Fox!
Today we added a new addition to the household in the form of Roxy Fox, a sixth month old Gordon Setter, bred by the same breeder (Gloria Brown) who bred Dragonfly. The reason Gloria had a six month old for sale is a tad complicated but suffice it to say that Roxy has been looked after by Gloria all her life so far and is a fabulous example of her breed. The plan is, as it was with Dragonfly until we discovered her unbiblical hernia, to breed, a fact Gloria is more than happy with, plus, if we do, we will use Jack, her current stud dog (unrelated) which makes it all very easy to progress when/if the time comes..
Relaxed at Home
Roxy is a sweetheart. She is a bright little button, very willing, very lively and very happy!!! She and Firefly hit it off straight away and in the evening we were slightly emotional at the setter-fest in all our front room as all four of them crashed out with us in front of the fire.
In not such good news, we discovered just under four weeks ago that Yeti has lymphatic cancer. Without any form of treatment, dogs with this type of cancer and at the stage Yeti was at then, are given 4-6 weeks to live! It is non-operable but you can opt for chemotherapy or steroid treatment. Chemotherapy could give a dog with this type of cancer up to another full year of life, treating with steroids anything from 3-6 months. We opted for the later due to the chemo involving a weekly visit to the vets (not something Yeti would especially enjoy) and then a day of not feeling that great. Plus the 'up to a year' is a maximum with the minimum being a total unknown.
Unfortunately however, poor Yeti had a horrendous reaction to the steroids suffering with both sickness and diarrhea and weeing and pooing every night. She is now simply on anti-biotics to quell any infection and so we simply are trying to give her as good a life as we can until she ‘tells’ us enough is enough! In theory the cancer won’t cause her any pain but she will lose weight and get more and more tired.
Now the sickness and diarrhea have gone, she is doing okay! We can see she is more tired but on walks she is pretty active still which is fab and, bless her, she is being a star with Roxy!!!
