Dry for three days!!!!
Rather incredibly, we have had NO rain (or snow) for three days. The temperatures are not quite good enough for the grass to really start shooting up and so utilizing a lot of the remaining water in the land, but nonetheless, we can see that we are getting drier. The bottom 3-acre is still nowhere near dry enough for the cows though and sadly, we do have rain forecast from tonight, so it looks as though we won't getting the cows out any time soon.
Relaxed at Home
Amazingly, the sheep and alpacas have been on the 4-acre field for six months now (with some inside time when the weather was 'really' bad, as opposed to just 'bad'!!). They went into it on 10th September because the 3-acre field was too wet. Looking back, we had no idea what 'too wet' really was back then.
As soon as the cows do go back out, the goats will then have the barn space again which means the sheep and alpacas can then be moved into the top 3-acre with the goats, with enough 'under cover ' space for everyone (barn and the double field shelter). At that point we will also probably take Mr Brown away from the ewes as we don't want him being too pushy and playful as the girls get near to lambing. He will need to live with the cows for a while but he will be able to see and small the girls through the fencing so we hope that will keep him stress-free!!!
