Keeping it in the family
We are being spoilt, we have just had another day of sunshine (although it is raining now…) The photo shows Row and her mum (QBP) squabbling over nesting space! They are in the stables storeroom (next door to their poultry stable) because obviously this is the BEST place to lay, and no, one of the umpteen nestboxes in their stall WON’T do!!!
Relaxed at Home
The family traits in this line of chickens are amazing to witness. Queenie is granny, there is another daughter QBB and then granddaughter Row. Character wise there are so many similarities. They are all VERY noisy layers, often both before and after they lay. They all love to perch high, they are quite independent, they all really love to explore and they are all very determined broodies, although whilst Queenie is usually very friendly and gentle even when sitting on eggs (as is Row), the middle generation are quite ferocious!!! We do have some of Row’s daughters that we hatched last year but as yet we have not decided which one(s) we will definitely want to keep. We are waiting to see what different behaviours start to emerge as spring approaches and then we will decide!!
