Our first goat meat!
Well, tonight we ate our first ever home grown goat - this was of course Shale who was destined for meat and who we then decided to keep as a pet before reverting back to plan a)!!! The meat was very tasty and there was very little fat too. Some people have said it is very like lamb. It sort of was but we could definitely taste the difference.
Relaxed at Home
It does not rate as our favourite meat mind you, and probably is at the bottom of the list when we look at all the other meat we raise BUT, it's good to know that if we have problems selling any of our males at all, we can resort to eating them. Our plan will be that the choice has to be: really good pet home or an equally good home for someone else to raise for meat or our own abattoir and there must be no compromise!!
Hopefully in a week or so we will know when our borrowed billy is due to arrive and then plans for next year's kids will take shape.
The ram arrives tomorrow so it is starting to be all go on the mating front!! We hope!!
