Poultry Numbers
The poultry enjoying some sunshine this morning! We still don't appear to have sold any more of this year's youngsters (on account of us not yet adverting them, although as said yesterday, we are now quite keen to see what colour eggs they all lay). As such we are heading into the winter with 37 chickens, 10 ducks, five turkeys and three geese. IF we get another lockdown due to Avian Flu we have a fruit cage in our sights to add to the stable but we are very much hoping we won't be shutting the birds away. We have no idea what the possibilities are here but as we are in a low-risk area, we will remain optimistic!!
Relaxed at Home
In the meantime we are moving the feeders and drinkers nearer the stables and placing them on pallets/mats. This is to get them off the wet grass and potential for mud (which is only going to get worse now) and it also means we won't need to walk over any muddy patches to fill them. The downside to this is that we might get too much poo in a smaller area as the birds will poo more when they come over to feed, but we will just have to monitor this and see how it goes. It is good we have the area of concrete immediately outside the stables, without that, the mud creep would be really hard to prevent!!
