Mud - not quite winning!
And still the rain fall-eth. And so we are back to having all our field shelters open for the animals to escape the wind and the wet and thus having more mucking out to do. We also have a bit of an issue with mud in front of the 3-acre field which needs more woodchip but of course, the ground is now too wet for Mike our woodchip man to drive on!!
Relaxed at Home
The cows meantime, stepped carefully through the mud this afternoon and were very happy to stand and munch their way through the new straw we had just put down for them – not quite what we intended it for but no doubt if they could speak, the cows would tell us that in the absence of hay (hint hint), they had to eat the straw instead!!!
We have no 'returns' with any of the cows and are now past the times when they should have come back into season if the AI had not worked. Never say never though and as explained on the 1st, we will get them scanned by Rachel so we know for sure if they are in calf...
