Our geese family
Our West Of England geese are a fabulous set of birds. The two 'goslings' now live with their parents out on the top three-acre paddock and our daily treat is seeing all five of them have an early morning run and flap which often takes them down to the bottom of the field! The goslings, at three months old, are now fully feathered and almost as big as the adults. They are on the left in the photo and as well as being that bit smaller also don’t have the ‘keel’ of their parents which you can clearly see in the adult male (white).
Relaxed at Home
Shame to say but we STILL haven’t named them: it’s on our ‘absolutely has to be done by Christmas’ list!!
The geese live off grass and, as seen in the photo, a bit of corn, the latter of which is their early evening treat. As with all our poultry they know when to expect it and are VERY noisy both before and during their meal. The adult male follows us religiously as soon as we appear in their paddock and if the corn jug is not in our hands, the indignation is loudly expressed.
The goslings are now sold and are being picked up a week on Saturday - the couple concerned are coming to our second DASH Farm walk and will take them with them when the tour has ended. Next year we hope to breed a lot more!!
