Mars and Pluto!
Mars and Pluto have such fun together – we are so pleased that we have the two of them as playmates, unlike last year where dear Mercury had to be content with trying to get the lambs to play with her, most of whom were not quite as interested as she wanted them to be… We haven’t weighed Mars for a while but suspect he is probably a couple of kilos ahead of Pluto still. Pluto himself has maintained his 200g daily gain and three days ago when he was just over six and a half weeks old, he was a respectable 14.80 kilos. At just over four weeks Mars was 14 kilos so Pluto is probably smaller than he should be but, based on the manic racing the two of them do each day, we are fairly confident he is as fit and healthy as he can be.
Relaxed at Home
We feed him seven times a day usually and always mix up 300 millilitres of milk per feed BUT it is rare that he finishes it all. This is because he is still a monkey when it comes to concentrating on drinking from the bottle. The slightest interruption causes him to stop drinking and he NEVER resumes, no matter how little he has taken. The other day he seemed to be really thirsty and drinking well and then suddenly Jack’s phone beeped as a message came through. Poor Pluto leapt back and that was that: no more milk. At other times, he can be interrupted by something as simple as a sheep walking past or the sound of the wind in the trees. The week before last his daily average was almost 1.4 litres, last week it was just over 1.3 litres and this week so far (by the way, our weeks begin on a Friday, don’t ask why...), it is 1.28 litres.
Weather wise today has just got better and better and we even had a respectable sunset... it is however NOT warm and in the evenings we have to have the heating on… Nonetheless, the grass is growing okay and we have plenty and our two cria are certainly grazing really well on it!
