Operation 'slate'
Operation woodchip has morphed into Operation ‘slate’! We have a very large pile of slate in the poultry area (left by the previous owner of the property), much of it is broken pieces and as such, is proving rather perfect for laying down on the mud by the 4-acre gate. So far we have put down three trailer loads, another one should hopefully be enough! We are using the woodchip to go around the edges and under the gate itself. The mud is too not bad here but is in danger of becoming so, due to the daily backwards and forwards of the mucking-out trolley.
Relaxed at Home
It is not going to look very pretty or neat but will be functional, and in time, it will all start to blend in as the grass re-grows and the ground dries.
The grass is actually still growing now, or at least responding to light. The woodchip path we laid to give us access to the Cow Pad (just three days ago) already has some tufts of grass sticking up through it. And the grass by the side of the goat path that had become quite trampled, is similarly standing up tall again. It is all rather remarkable for December.
We ought to take a picture of the slate and woodchip now and then again in three/ four months...
In the meantime, in the absence of a not very pretty picture of a half finished gateway, we thought a shot of the sheep against tonight’s setting sun, was perhaps a bit more pleasing on the eye. We hope you agree!!!
